This image of Ling Gésar is a detail from a thangka of Dzogchen Monastery. Ling Gésar was the ancient Tibetan spritual warrior-hero who gave battle to the demonic forces of negativity. The monastery featured as the main image of the thangka would most likely be one of the Six Ma-gön, the six ‘Mother Gompas’ of the Nyingma Tradition: Séchen, Dzogchen, Mindröling, Kathog, Dorje Drak, or Palyül. A practitioner may keep a thangka of the monastery where they studied, or have a thangka of their teacher sitting in front of their monastery.
