Phüntsog Tulku is a Drigung Kagyüd incarnation who lives in Austria. He is a ngak’phang Lama and gTértön who presides over the Drigung Phüntsog Chöling Gompa in Wien (Vienna). He has been a friend of Ngak’chang Rinpoche since 1992 when Ngak’chang Rinpoche was first invited to his Gompa to give teachings of Trül’khor, and A-tri. Ngak’chang Rinpoche has given several major teachings there since.
In this picture, Phüntsog Tulku is giving a gÇod transmission. He is wearing the wrathful costume of his predecessor. The head ornaments are the five dakini crown made of human bone and the black yak hair crown ornament – representing a Buddha’s ushnisha. The two chö-phens appended to the wrathful crown represent the dance of the dakas and dakinis. On this occasion he used Ngak’chang Rinpoche’s nine-prong bell and skull damaru. Those who have read Spectrum of Ecstasy by Ngak’chang Rinpoche and Khandro Déchen, will have heard of Phüntsog Tulku through his introduction to that book. Phüntsog Tulku has shown a keen interest in the Aro gTér and has requested transmissions of yidam practices for his students each time Ngak’chang Rinpoche and Khandro Déchen have visited Austria.
